Múinteoir Ruairí – Chess Report

Chess Champions

On Tuesday the 10th of March the school attended the Ficheall chess blitz in Gaelscoil Nás na Ríogh. Naas CNS entered four teams into the tournament. The Loch Chess Monsters and The Chesspacitos entered the Buds tournament, for third and fourth class, and The Pawn Crackers and The Lionel Chessies entered the Masters tournament, for fifth and sixth class.

I am delighted to announce that Naas CNS came first in both tournaments. The Pawn Crackers’ performance was so impressive that they were invited to participate in the Kildare Ficheall Féile. Unfortunately, the Féile was cancelled due to Covid 19.

However, I’d like to take this opportunity to mention some exceptional chess players.

In the Masters tournament five out of the top six rated players came from Naas CNS. These players were Felix Cassidy (5th), Liam Higgins, (6th), Robert Lungu (5th), Colm Ke Long Zeng (5th) and Luke Collins (6th).

In the Buds Tournament, the school had six players in the top ten. These players were Kaspian Zielinski (1st), Radek Czajka (3rd), Neil Collins (4th), Tymon Szalinski (3rd), Cayden Kavanagh (4th) and Maikls Stalbe (3rd). Kaspian, who is only in first class and was the youngest player, won all his games. He came first in his tournament and had the most points out of any player in either the Buds or Masters. Well done Kaspian!

Though it is disappointing that the chess season ended early I am already excited for next year and all the tournaments the school will win. Until then, congratulations to everyone who represented the school. You are all Chess Champions.
