Hi everyone

A little hello video for you again this week.

https://www.loom.com/share/619f7449bfef40af8aa6ac6f87f95b14  Password: Firstclass

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Below is your work for this week. Just do what you can and don’t be under any pressure to complete everything. It is important to enjoy things at home like cooking and baking, arts and crafts and getting outside in nature and enjoying the start of summer. I loved seeing pictures of what you are all up to over the week. Have a look at the blog to see some pictures your friends shared this week. You were all very busy.

Hope you all have a great week.
Aislinn 😊

Having fun and using your imagination can really help your well-being! So, use your

creativity now to design some totally new creatures, based on combining two or

three other animals. I look forward to what you come up with.

Maths

For the start of this week we are going to be looking at number operations adding and subtracting. Adding a two-digit number to a single digit or subtracting a single digit from a two-digit number. The book suggests using cubes. If you want to use a counting tool use any toys you might have at home Lego would be a good option. Or use the hundred square you made two weeks ago this might help as well.  You can also use the cubes in the book to help. Today if you can have a look at pages 92 and 93. Page 92 is just adding and page 93 is subtracting. Remember to always check the sign. I have done a little video to remind you all how to write your answers. I hope it helps.

Well Being Journal pg13

Read some ways that can help you if you feel worried.

Maths

Today we are going to look at page 94- sound of you might find this tricky but try your best and don’t worry if you get stuck. We will work on it again back in school. If you have blocks or Lego at home, it might be good to make groups of 10 and have some units to help you. You could even make some tens and units using a sheet of paper if you want or use your 100 square. Make sure to check today’s signs carefully to see if you need to add + or subtract –. Look at my short video if you need help.

Maths

Today have a look at page 95. They are mixing up add and subtract so make sure you look carefully at the sign. I link to put a circle around the sign to remind me what operation to do. Remember start with units always and then tens. Watch my video to help you. https://www.loom.com/share/4f20bd8baedd4be1ab6f9b389ba40f24 Password: Firstclass

For section D- remember to underline the key information and the words that will help you to pick the right operation.

Art This week the whole school is completing ‘Draw your hero’ competition. We are going to make a gallery on the website and when we return to school, we want to gather them all and make a display so keep it safe.  If you want to get some ideas and enter the national competition look at the website below.  There is a nice short video to watch also. https://drawyourhero.ie/ Make sure and send be a picture of your hero when you are finished. A famous artist called Banksy shared this art last week it might help you with an idea.

Maths

We are going to look at length today and tomorrow as you have been working so hard with numbers this week. If you have some cubes and play-doh at home have a go as estimating on page 89. If you don’t go straight onto page 90. Try section A + B. You can use anything to throw but something that won’t roll away when it lands. For A you must throw the object and then estimate how many strides(steps) you think it is. Remember an estimation is a guess and is never wrong. When you have written your estimation count how many steps to the object. Repeat this again with a 2nd throw. B is very similar except this time you are estimating how many jumps away the object is and then measuring in jumps. Have Fun 😊

Well Being page 16 – thinking about changes that happen as part of life.

Maths

Today you need a ruler or a length of wool/string (or anything you can use- a kitchen roll or toilet roll could even be used) to measure the length of objects in your house.  First you need to estimate how something is. If you are using a ruler you might estimate the table is 6 rulers long and then measure it to check. For the class door and teacher height use a door at home and the height of someone in your house. You should be able to complete the rest yourself. If you like you could find some more things to measure in your house. Attached some extra activities of different levels if anyone is interested to measure more.

Watch a cartoon in Irish on Cula4 https://www.cula4.com/en/watch/ (Spongebob or Alvin and Chipmonks are good and children might be familiar with these or cat cliste) or play Feicim le mo Shúlín (Eye Spy), Deir o gradaigh (Simon says)
